Unexpected 3rd Historical Patek Philippe Table Clock Appears
Following the auction which just took place in New York and hosted by Sotheby's, we are pleased to share with you a couple of videos highlighting three lots that went through the hands of the Patek Philippe Museum prior to this auction.
The goal was to document better the origin of these timepieces and their exceptional dimension. When talking about Patek Philippe's most prominent collectors, names like James Ward Packard and Henry Graves Jr. are the first to come to mind.
The story of these two American magnates in the early 20th century, locked in a fierce competition to acquire the most complicated (and expensive) watch, is well known to those familiar with the brand’s mythology.
However, it appeared that additionally to the two known table "presse-papier" clock already in the hands of the Museum, a third iteration was also produced but this time for the passionate American collector: Thomas Emery.
In the first part of our mini-series, Peter Friess, the museum’s curator, shared the story of this fascinating discovery — one that reveals yet another chapter in the history of American watch collecting.
For info, this third table clock reached a spectacular hammer price of 2.7 Million USD! And trust us—this is only the beginning… the next episode brings even bigger surprises.
